Meet Dave Meine, Owner of DJ Dave's
Dave Meine founded DJ Dave's in 1992 and has been DJing Idaho weddings ever since. More than 30 years later, he still runs the company, trains every DJ on the team, and still takes the mic at weddings himself. Here's his story, in his own words.
A Life Surrounded by Music
I love music. I grew up playing in my high school band, singing in choir, and playing in my own garage band. I constantly surrounded myself with music. I went to every school and church dance I could and loved the atmosphere at those events, long before I ever stood behind a DJ booth.
How I Started DJing
My DJ career started when I was 24, in Oakland, California. I was performing in a large stage production with a cast of actors, dancers, singers, and orchestra members, and on weekends the production needed a DJ for its youth dances. A friend who was a DJ let me use his equipment to play those events.
"I fell in love with entertaining crowds," and I started looking for other opportunities.
I went to work for a California company called ABC Disc Jockey, DJing wedding receptions, birthday parties, and military banquets. By the end of that summer, I'd committed to starting my own DJ company.
From Pocatello to Boise
In 1992, I started DJ Dave's Mobile Disc Jockey Entertainment in Pocatello, Idaho. After graduating from Idaho State University, I moved to Boise in 1995 and grew the business here. Today, DJ Dave's has a team of DJs who provide service for hundreds of events each year throughout Southwest Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
Why Weddings Are the Heart of What We Do
Weddings make up most of our calendar, and they're still my favorite events to DJ. A wedding only happens once, and the music carries every big moment: the walk down the aisle, the first dance, the toasts, the last song of the night. I meet with couples ahead of time, learn what they love, and plan the day so they can relax and be present.
